Mentoring North Hill Elementary School FLL Team 54480
On November 16, 2021, we met North Hill Elementary School’s FLL Team 54480 and one of their kindergarten FLL Jr. teams. We introduced ourselves, showed them our pit board, and shared a little bit about the middle school FTC challenge theme. We shared some of the ways building and coding the robot in middle school differs from elementary school. The kindergarteners told us about their cargo theme and showed us the Lego buildings and vehicles they have built so far.
We mentored them throughout the year up till the end of their season. We mentored them in programming, designing, building. They got 2nd place for max score and Champions Award for overall performance (robot, presentation, and innovation).

6th Grade STEM Class Introduced to FIRST Robotics
During the Coronavirus pandemic, our team lacked opportunities to share FIRST with our community as we’ve done in the past, for example, attending local elementary school science fairs. To share STEM and FIRST robotics with others, the team prepared several documentary videos. Each is under two minutes, and showcases our team building the robot, running matches, and interviews with team members about why they joined the team and what they like about STEM. These videos are available for the public to view on our team website, www.ebots8478.com.
On November 17, 2021, Hart Middle School STEM teacher, Ms. Kelsey Knapp, showed her sixth grade STEM class one of the Hart E-Bots videos. The sixth graders are working on their robotics project this week. We’re excited to introduce them to our school’s FTC team and hope to inspire them to become Hart E-Bots next year.

Programming Collaboration Meeting with FTC Team Kaos to Strengthen FIRST in our Community
On Thursday, December 2, 2021, we had a meeting on ZOOM with members of Team Kaos to discuss our programming strategies. Team Kaos shared many things with us, such as their auton, teleop, code and more. We asked what they liked the most about their robot and being on Team Kaos and they said the 45 degree mounted wheels and how they had a super simple yet effective code structure. Both teams had come up with questions to ask each other. They shared many tips and tricks and also talked about stuff they did a little differently. Overall, it was nice to see another team’s view and thinking about the whole robotics challenge. Our robots looked nothing alike but have some similar features.

Girl Scouts Robotics Showcase
On December 14, 2021, we held a robotics event for Girl Scouts that attend our middle school. The Girl Scouts watched our drive team practice robot maneuvers on the field. We told them about the Freight Frenzy Challenge, described how each sub team built the different parts of the robot, and shared our experience as Hart E-Bots. We answered their questions and ate some Girl Scout cookies, too.
